Technical guideline for fire safety in timber buildings

Kvarteret Limnologen ©MidrocIt is now possible and permitted to build multi-storey buildings with timber in most European countries. Therefore, the very first Europe-wide technical guideline on the fire-safe use of wood in buildings has been published by SP.

The technical guideline contains everything you need to know on the fire-safe use of timber structures and timber products which fulfil the European fire requirements and fire categories. It also provides instructions for the design of timber structures in accordance with Eurocode 5 and practical guidelines for fire safety with clear examples. The content is intended for everyone who works with timber and fire safety in some manner, for example, architects, engineers, educators, authorities and the construction industry.

The technical guideline is a result of the European research project FireInTimber (Fire Resistance of Innovative Timber Structures). SP Wood Technology coordinated the project, which is a part of the Wood-Wisdom-Net Research Programme. Leading experts from nine European countries have participated in the project and guarantee the quality and applicability of the recommendations.
The aim is for the technical guideline to also become a step in stimulating the safe use of timber products in buildings and thereby contribute to sustainable social structure.
