Waste Refinery - a Centre for optimum conversion of waste
Waste Refinery is a Swedish knowledge centre which is coordinated by SP. The centre will perform theoretical and practical research, in close collaboration with representatives from the industry, research organisations and the society. Waste is an acute, rapidly growing global problem, but at the same time, if correctly refined, it could satisfy several needs of the society through products such as fertilisers, heat, power and vehicle fuels. Hence, the selected focus area of Waste Refinery is optimum conversion of waste material into high-quality products important for a sustainable society.
This will be achieved by performing research within the three sub-areas:
- systems analysis
- biological treatment
- thermal treatment
The activities within Waste Refinery will consider the entire chain, from collection, quality assurance and quality control of waste to optimum process function and minimum formation of hazardous compounds.
