Sustainable food production

One company in the food chain that has adopted Green Lean works with sustainable food production; financially sustainable by working in a smarter, environmentally sustainable way through its insight into the factors that reduce environmental impact, and socially sustainable by presenting employees with challenges and opportunities to influence their work.

Operational development inspired by Lean is suitable for all operating areas. However, tools and methods need to be developed to suit all sectors.

There are two key differences compared with the majority of other sectors; firstly, environmental impact in the food chain largely takes place early on – in the production of primary products (agriculture, fishing etc.) – and secondly, the shelf life of food is limited. This means that quality shortcomings and waste along the chain not only give rise to unnecessary cost but also have a major negative effect on the environment.

Sustainable food production means that resource efficiency, profitability, environment and system thinking go hand-in-hand – Green Lean.
