SAFER – Research and innovation for traffic safety

SP is a partner of SAFER the Vehicle and Traffic Safety Centre at Chalmers. The vision of SAFER is to provide countermeasures to considerably reduce both the number of traffic accidents and the number of fatalities and serious injuries, use the multi-disciplinary scientific competence available within the Centre and make the Centre a hub for excellence within the international field of vehicle safety.

This vision corresponds excellently to the objective of SP to form strong environments for research and innovation.

SP is Sweden's largest one-stop development and research resource for the automotive industry and its subcontractors. The SAFER project where SP participates address primarily system safety, functional safety, communication, active safety, passive safety, measurement technology and data collection (Field Operational Tests).


Chalmers University of Technology hosts the centre. By using the multidisciplinary scientific competence available within the Centre, SAFER will be made a hub for excellence within the field of vehicle safety. VINNOVA is the main Sponsor. The partners are together financing the centre with 30 miljon SEK (approx 3 miljon Euro) per year for 10 years.
