Industrial energy systems

Analysing industries from a systems perspective can identify areas where substantial energy savings can be made. It is important to apply improvements in the correct areas and to avoid sub-optimisations.

Using existing data - that is, information on consumption of energy and materials in the various stages of production - we apply system analysis methods to assess the energy efficiency improvement potentials of major industries.  Different energy system models, such as process integration or PINCH modelling, enable us to decide which measures would give the greatest improvement to the industry as a whole.

Working at a higher system level, we can also link several industries together.  By investigating how they interact, we can construct models of Sweden's - or indeed of Europe's - entire energy system, and see where the potential for improving the efficiency of energy use is greatest.

We perform research, development and evaluation of ways of improving the efficiency of energy use, and of reducing environmental impact, within industry by such means as:
• PINCH analysis
• Process modelling
• Life cycle analysis
• Analysis of the part that could be played by industry in an expanded energy system
