NG TEST – Next Generation Test Methods for Active Safety FunctionsToday, verification and validation of passive safety systems are mainly performed using cost efficient computer simulations. These simulations are in turn validated using a few controlled physical crash tests. NG TEST aims to move parts of the verification and validation of active safety functions from the proving ground to a complete or partly virtual environment.
Tests on proving ground test tracks are essential during the development of active safety functions, but are time inefficient and hard to accurately reproduce. By doing the bulk of testing in virtual or partly virtual environments, more tests can be performed in shorter time and parameter settings quickly evaluated.
NG TEST will establish a tool chain from computer desktop simulations, via driving simulators and augmented reality testing, to driverless proving ground tests. It should be possible to seamlessly transfer test scenarios from one tool to another.
