Quality assurance and reliability of measured values - Information integrity and risks

Background

A recommendation from energy authorites in Sweden is that montly readings of energy consumption shall be possible for all customers from July 1st 2009. Since this concerns approximately 5 million customers this means that remote automatic readings must be made.

Purpose

Since measured energy values will be used for charging, security must be handled in a systematic way. The purpose of this project is, starting from existing automatic systems for collecting energy measurement values, to survey potential riska and threats and suggest methods and techniques for risk and threat reduction. Project focus is on security issues of data communication.

Goal

The result is a report containing guidelines and support for planning and purchasing systems for secure automatic systems for collecting energy measurement values. Examples are also presented. The results could be generalized to include remote readings of e.g. gas, water consumption etc.
