EeB.NMP FC-DISTRICT

Gas driven fuel cells will provide electricity and heat to small building districts. The concept will yield a high use of the primary energy and when biogas will be used and thus also a low carbon footprint on the environment.

Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) generate electric current at a high conversion temperature. Heat exchangers will transfer heat to hot water. Buildings will yield the heat energy via heat storage and a distribution system. Smart-grid technology will be applied both for the electrical and the thermal network in order to obtain an intelligent and optimal control. SP participates in the parts concerning heat exchange, heat storage, and development of a new highly thermally insulated pipe. SP is WP-leader for the part "heat distribution and mirco-grid". The technology will be demonstrated at three sites in Europe: in Poland, Greece and Spain.
