Multilayered wood-based doors with enhanced acoustic insulating properties for dwellings, sanitation and educative centres




The aim of the SILENTWOOD project is to develop and validate a novel, price-competitive, certifiable wooden-based door with enhanced acoustic performance for applications on doors and wall panels to attend the growing demand and comply with increasingly stringent building legislations for residential, educational and sanitary premises.


The purpose of SILENTWOOD is to allow impacted sectors to comply with existing building regulations at European level and, at the same time, allowing them to reach new market opportunities to help the face the current critical situation.


SILENTWOOD technology is based on innovative multilayered structure containing new noise reduction materials and attenuating internal geometrical design. It also copes with the broadest range of aesthetic and architectonic variables and applicable worldwide standards (i.e. in relation to thermal insulation, fire-proofing and mechanical properties).


The work includes iterative processes of advanced computer modeling, where acoustical properties are predicted and validated from material characteristics in the multi-layer composite material combinations included in the manufactured prototypes.
