MASURCA

The project (MASURCA - Mobile Adaptable Surveillance System for Critical Areas) concerns securing a critical area, e.g. for a few days, by placing small battery-powered devices, sensor nodes, around the critical area. The sensor nodes communicate by radio and configure themselves to a coherent and reliable network.

Many potential applications exist, both civilian and military, e.g. search inside buildings, coverage of dangerous areas etc. Sensor nodes taken together can be considered as a single smart sensor that can detect more complex aspects such as type of vehicle within an area. A central unit is used for presentation, comprehensive analysis and management. Central units could be linked together via the Internet for comprehensive and optimized management at distance such as a control centre for an entire city.

The project started Q4 2010 and ends Q4 2012 and aims to develop a prototype system with full functionality but not with optimized properties. Miniaturization and improvement of properties e.g. regarding power consumption and scope could fit further development in Swedish companies. Within the prototype system two tools will be developed; one for data fusion and one for optimization.

Partners are SP (Project responsible), Lansen Technology AB, SICS and Saab Training and Simulation. The project is supported by Vinnova.
