Testing batteries and motors

SP can evaluate the performance of electrical equipment, either in the form of comparison testing or for compliance with applicable standards. We test batteries, electric motors and generators.

We recommend our customers to contact us at an early stage of their work when developing new products.  We can provide appropriate advice before and during the development process, with the overall benefit of time and cost savings. Backed by SP's wide range of technical services and knowledge, we can also provide advice and testing or inspection services for many other aspects of electrical products.

Battery properties

Batteries are used in many applications today, with their properties being of significant importance for the performance of the product.  This applies both to rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries.  Verifying that a battery has the intended properties can eliminate the risk of the battery degrading the performance of the equipment.

Testing batteries

We have tested various types of batteries for many years.  When testing electrical safety, the battery and associated circuitry in a component are normally evaluated in order to eliminate any risks that could arise in connection with the use of batteries.

Determination of battery properties

We can evaluate and test many different characteristics of many types of batteries:  this can also be done under a range of climatic and mechanical environmental conditions.

Battery tests
  • Capacity
  • Gas flow
  • Gas absorption efficiency (IEC 62 259)
  • Flame protection (relief valves)
  • Relief pressure
  • Life in various environments
  • Efficiency in various environments
  • Chemical analyses
Motors and generators

We can evaluate and test several electrical characteristics of various types of motors and generators, under a range of climate and mechanical conditions.
Capacity
Power:  25 kW
Speed: -3000 - +3000 r/min
Torque: -180 - +160 Nm

Examples of tests

Temperature measurements of motors in various climate conditions.
Temperature measurements of motors for use in explosive surroundings.
Temperature measurements of motors as part of electrical safety evaluations.
Verification of efficiency, starting torque, starting current, response to step changes, non-load speed.
