Calculation tools
Description of various calculation models used in fire technology.
Used for temperature calulations.
Used to predict flame spread.
Used for computional fluid dynamics (CFD).
Used to simulate fire development with zone modelling.
Freia
Used to calculate the consequences of chemical discharge and fires in industrial buildings.

is a newly started center for technical calculations. The resources and competence should be available for univeristies, institutes, industry and other parties mainly in the area around Borås. The university college of Borås (HB), SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden as well as local industries and the community are participants.

The use of calculation models has expanded enormously over the past few years.
SP has been actively in the development of SOFIE, a CFD code specifically for fire application. This model has advanced submodels for flame spread, turbulence, chemistry, particle and aerosol modelling etc. Examples of applications are smoke transport in building and tunnels, fire investigations, flame spread on surface, particle spread, calculation of chemical species with flamelet modules, development of test methods etc. Recently also CFD has been used for combustion application
Supplementary a number of other calculation tools for thermal analysis, product development and risk analysis are available. SP also offers the zone model Branzfire for the European market.
