Calibration of artificial mastoidAn artificial mastoid transforms the force from a bone conductor to an electric signal. As the applied force is dependent on the mechanical impedance of the mastoid, this is an important parameter of an artificial mastoid and is specified in the standard IEC 60373.
The mechanical impedance is affected by temperature, quality and age of those rubber layers in the mastoid which are placed between the bone conductor and the force transducer.
RISE calibrates artificial mastoids regarding sensitivity and mechanical impedance. The calibration is normally carried out with the static load 5,4 N. The calibration can be carried out on the mastoid solely, alternatively on mastoid and measurement instrument together as a set.
