Test method

DIN 4102 - Part 1, B2 (1998), Reaction to fire tests - Ignitability of building products subjected to direct impingement of flame.

Main field of application

Classification of building products for the German market according to DIN 4102-1. The fire class is denoted “B2”.

The test method measures the ignitability of building products when exposed to a small flame.

Examples of products that can be tested with this method

All types of building products where fire requirements according to DIN 4102-1, class B2 is required.

Complete test, 10 tests 10 test specimens with the dimension 90 mm x 230 mm and 5 test specimens with the dimension 90 mm x 190 mm.

Indicative test,2 tests 

2 test specimens with the dimension 90 mm x 230 mm and 1 test specimen with the dimension 90 mm x 190 mm.

Procedure

The test takes place inside a test chamber where the test specimen is mounted vertically. The test specimen is subjected to edge and/or surface exposure from a gas flame. During the test, time of ignition, burning droplets and whether the flames reach the top marking of the test specimen within a prescribed time period, is registered.
