FMVSS 302Flammability of materials used in the occupant compartments of motor vehicles according to FMVSS 302. (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard).
Main field of application
The standard decides the burning rate of materials in the occupant compartments of motor vehicles. Requirements of burning rates are found in FMVSS 302.
Examples of products that can be tested with this method
Any portion of a single or composite material which is within 13 mm of the occupant compartments air space.
Material consumption during test
2 test specimens, with the dimension 100 mm x 356 mm.
The test is conducted inside a test chamber where the test specimen is mounted horizontally. The exposed side of the test specimen is subjected to a gas flame from underneath. The burnt distance and the time taken to burn this distance is measured during the test. The result, the burning rate, is expressed in mm/min.
