Foto Per RohlénFIRST (First Responders of Tomorrow) intends to be the one whom link rescue services, researchers and companies who provide new technology together as well as being the obvious partner for authorities, emergency services, researchers and companies concerning issues related to rescue service in technology, tactics and methodology.

FIRST has a long tradition of cooperating with rescue services. Under the tab “Publications about rescue services” in the right column there is references to projects related to rescue services. The projects are mainly about overpressure ventilation, IR technology, water mist, underground constructions, new energy carriers, environment as well as method and tactics. Information about ongoing research that FIRST provides is at the moment only available in Swedish, but can be found in the right column.

Within FIRST, Systematically Product Evaluation of Emergency Service Products (SPAR) is being conducted. The evaluation helps emergency services to make informed decisions when purchasing new technology and equipment which in turn can help save money.

FIRST is organizationally placed at RISE Safety/Fire Research and FIRE Research is active within fire research, fire engineering dimensioning, offshore safety, risk analysis, testing, certification, manufacturing control etc. We also support national and international standardization and legislation through participation in EU expert groups, see more on the Fire Research page.

RISE also carries fire related educations on the country’s colleges and universities, further educations for emergency service as well as supervision of municipal doctoral student. FIRST also has a close collaboration with adjacent competence platforms such as “Tunnel and Underground Safety Centre (TUSC)”, “Fuel Storage Safety” and the newly established competence platform Centre of Fortification (CFORT) in association with Swedish Fortifications Agency.

FIRST focus on:

  • Research
