District heating pipes, district heating fittings and district heating pipe jointsThe department Solid Mechanics and structures in Gothenburg, has long experience in testing and evaulation of district heating pipes, pipe fittings and pipe joints. Tests and evaluations are carried out under existing standards or according to the customer's demands.
Examples of tests and evaluations
- in the internal or external production control
- in quality assurance in production
- as the basis for certification, European and national levels
- in damage investigations
SP is testing and evaluating the various components under the following standards:
SS-EN 253:2009 - includes pipe assembly of steel service pipe, polyurethane thermal insulation and outer casing of polyethylene.
SS-EN 15698-1:2009 – includes pipe assembly of two steel service pipes, polyurethane thermal insulation and outer casing of polyethylene.
SS-EN 448:2009 - includes fitting assemblies of steel service pipes, polyurethane thermal insulation and outer casing of polyethylene.
SS-EN 489:2009 - includes test of joint assembly for steel service pipes with polyurethane thermal insulation and outer casing of polyethylene.
SS-EN 15632-1, 2, 3 and 4 - Pre-insulated flexible pipe systems - requirements and test methods.
SS-EN 15632-1:2009 - includes classification, general requirements and test methods.
SS-EN 15632-2:2010 - includes bonded plastic service pipes.
SS-EN 15632-3:2010 - includes non-bonded system with plastic service pipes.
SS-EN 15632-4:2009 - includes bonded metal service pipes.
SP is one of a few laboratories that are approved by EuroHeat for inspection and testing for European certification of district heating pipes. As base for the approval are the standards EN 253, EN 448 and EN 15632.
The test according to SS-EN 489:2009 includes for example soil stress test carried out in a sand box followed by water impermeability test. In addition to the standard conditions, the service pipe temperature, the simulated overfill and the number of cycles can be varied on the customer's demand. It is also possible to do the sand box test with higher moisture content in the test sand.
