Materials in vehicles
SP's working expertise areas for materials technology for vehicles lie particularly in metallic materials (strength and fatigue), polymer materials (plastics and rubber), vehicle paints and other surface treatments, and in adhesives.
New legal requirements, coupled with the rapid rate of technical developments, mean that materials technology is becoming an increasingly important working area for the automotive industry. How, for example, are materials affected by new fuels? Another working area is that of lighter designs. SP works closely with industry in conducting research into areas such as renewable materials, self-cleaning paints etc.
