The P-mark
SP Energy Technology began work on test methods for these products in 2005 and we were thus among the first institutes in the world to work on these products. Our test method SP-Method no. 4160 has been prepared in cooperation with MSB – The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency. Since 2006, we carry out testing of products for P-marking. As part of the P-marking certification wa also perform manufacturing control so that we continuously monitor production quality.
A P-marked product meets the Swedish law requirements that these products must be tested and approved to be sold in Sweden.
Standardization
A Working Group has been started to develop three European standards in the field of tests and requirements for alcohol fired fireplaces, by the European standardization body CEN. The reason is the rapidly growing market for ethanol-fueled fireplaces and hazards and accidents that have been reported.
Within the SIS – Swedish Standards Institute, a Swedish working group has been formed to follow the work in Europe. Several Swedish manufacturers and retailers are involved, along with MSB, The Swedish Consumer Agency and The Swedish Fire Protection Association. What is unique to this group in SIS is that also some Norwegian companies and authorities are involved including DSB - The Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning.
Magnus Andreas Holmgren at SP Energy Technology is the chairman of the Swedish working group and is also nominated as an expert in the European Working Group of CEN.
