Air Permeability EN 12427
Water penetration EN 12489
The tests will be performed in a test chamber with the maximum width of 6.0 m and a maximum height of 3.3 m. In order to prepare the chamber before the door is mounted SP needs information concerning the daylight opening of the door to be tested and how it shall be fixed to the frame.
Wind load EN 12424
A fully assembled door is tested in the test chamber. The tested door is normally of the most frequent size sold on the market. Wind load test on bigger doors is performed by a 4-point bend test. The manufacturer should consider different configuration possibilities when choosing the test objects, for example panels with windows and reinforcement trusses.
Operational Forces EN 12445
The door can be sold with different operators, control units and safety edges. All combinations must be tested. The test is normally performed with the door mounted in the test chamber but can also be performed on site. The total weight of the mowing parts of the door shall during this test be equal to the weight of the largest (heaviest) door to be placed on the market. To simulate the largest door, extra weights may be distributed over the panels.
Safe opening test EN 12605
The test is normally performed with the door mounted in the test chamber but can also be performed on site. The total weight of the mowing parts of the door shall during this test be equal to the weight of the largest (heaviest) door to be placed on the market. To simulate the largest door, extra weights may be distributed over the panels. For an overhead door, a spring break is simulated by releasing one balancing spring and a lifting wire break is simulated by cutting one wire.
Thermal aspects EN 13241-1
For determination of the thermal transmittance extra panels and detailed drawings are needed. Specifications of the requested information will be provided when needed.
Durability test EN 12605
The durability test is normally performed in the premises of the manufacturer under supervision of the Notified Body or his subcontractor. The test place will be visited by the supervisor at least 5 times. At the beginning and the finish of the test, plus three more visits of which one is unannounced. During this test the Notified Body checks the durability of following characteristics: Air permeability, Water penetration and Thermal transmittance. SP normally also looks at the mechanical aspects, such as spring- and wire break and other types of wear. This information is needed by the manufacturers for their user’s manual and service program.
Dangerous substances EN 13241-1
In order to carry out the examination, detailed material specifications for the door panel, the hardware and any optional motorized operator(s) must be provided. The specifications shall include all used materials such as metals, alloys, thermoplastics, thermosetting plastics, wood materials etc. After the examination a statement is written.
For some characteristics, which are not safety related, it is possible to declare NPD (Non Performance Declared).
After the testing, the test results are presented in test report(s). The test reports are used by SP’s certification body as a base documentation for issuing an Initial Type Test (ITT) report. The ITT report may be used as a support for an EC Declaration of Conformity in accordance with the requirements in the harmonized standard EN 13241-1:2003. SP needs a written request from the manufacturer before issuing an ITT.
