Positioning

Where am I? What is my speed? These are two questions that are often answered with the help of GPS. SP develops new methods for the determination of position, velocity, and acceleration, which both provides better accuracy and the possibility for the use of GPS in environments where it has not previously worked.

These techniques are used for both rapid movements of vehicles and aircrafts and for smaller movements where very high accuracy is required. Examples of the latter are earthquakes and land uplift after the last ice age. GPS is frequently used for the construction of houses, roads and bridges. These applications are often performed using the RTK technology, which today provides the best accuracy in real time applications.

In cooperation with Lantmäteriet SP further develops the RTK technology and its applications. We also develop methods for GPS use in forests and dense urban areas.
