Software in measuring instruments
SP can evaluate software in measuring instruments in respect of risks of incorrect measurements or measured values, based on the requirements of the EU Measuring Instruments Directive and corresponding WELMEC guidelines.
Software evaluation is performed in accordance with an accredited SP Method. In addition, the following services are offered as a complement to software evaluation:
- Information for meeting MID requirements
- Applied interpretation of WELMEC Guide 7.2 for the following instruments: Electricity meters, taximeters, weighing instruments, fuel dispensing pumps.
The MID specifies requirements
Measuring instrument manufacturers face new challenges in ensuring that certain instruments meet the requirements of the Measuring Instruments Directive (2004/22/EC). The Directive applies to all types of measuring instruments, such as water meters, gas meters, electricity meters (active power), heat meters, metering systems for liquids other than water, automatic weighing instruments and taximeters.
The MID applies throughout the EU
With approved test results and an MID certificate for a measuring instrument, manufacturers can reach the entire EU market. The necessary approval procedure consists of evaluation of the instrument's software in accordance with WELMEC Guide 7.2.
