The Swan Ecolabelling
SP perform functional tests on compost bins according to criteria set up by the Nordic Ecolabelling, “the Swan”.A functional test means that SP tests whether the composting process in the bin works as intended, looking at temperature and decrease in volume during the composting process. Smell and leachate is investigated. The composting bin is evaluated concerning construction, mechanical stability and insulation. The manual is also inspected.
Functional tests of other products like for instance sewage free compost toilets and wall paper adhesives are also performed at SP as a base for the ”Swan” labelling.
If the product fulfils the set up criteria, the producer can apply for agreement on the ”Swan” Ecolabel at it’s own Nordic office for Nordic Ecolabelling (see link to the right of this page).
In Sweden, SIS Ecolabelling AB in Stockholm is responsible for this area.
