Type-approved packaging
All certified packaging displays its UN approval code. This is an international identification system that provides important information on the packaging. The code is always displayed in the same order, starting with the UN symbol. This is followed by numerals and letters that indicate the type of goods for which the packaging or container is suitable, together with other information. The marking is generally displayed on the top or cover of the packaging or container.
The markings on the container shown below provide the following information:
- 1A1 Steel drum with fixed top
- X Approved for substances in packaging groups I-III (type a, b or c substances in accordance with ADR/RID), having a relative density not exceeding 1,2.
- 250 Pressure tested with 250 kPa.
- 96 Year of manufacure, 1996
- S Type tested in Sweden
- SP-11 94 16
Identification of the packaging:
SP's approval symbol and six-figure identification number. Certain additional marking is required for reconditioned (= renovated) packaging/containers.
