Pallets
The commonest way of assembling batches of general goods is to load them on to pallets. Pallets for goods handling and distribution have been standardised in terms of size and type for several decades: standards have been a prerequisite for the growth of rational distribution methods and systems.
This has resulted in major cost savings for materials handling, partly as a result of standardisation of the handling equipment, and partly through elimination of the need to load, unload and reload goods. The requirements for standardised pallets are increasing, in parallel with the increase in the use of automatic pallet handling systems.
SP performs tests in accordance with SS-EN 13698-1.
Different types of handling and loads require multiple-use, internal or expendable pallets made of various materials, of different sizes and construction, which are not standardised. We can provide custom solutions for testing such pallets to suit the transport/handling/storage stresses to which they will be exposed.
Examples of stresses to which products and packaging can be exposed include:
- Compression loads on the entire pallet, or only on the blocks
- Vibration testing
- Strength testing of the deck and skids
- Drop testing
- Strength testing of strapping
- Friction measurement
- Shock testing
