Information about FAR 25.853, Vertical testing

Part 25, Section 25.853 - Airworthiness Standard: Transport Category Airplanes, Appendix F - Party 1.

Principal use
The method measures the damaged length of material in passenger and crew compartments of the aircraft. The requirements are outlined in FAA Regulations (The Federal Aviation Administration), Part 25, Section 25.853 - Airworthiness Standard: Transport Category Airplanes, Appendix F - Party 1.

All types of products in passenger and crew compartments.

Material for testing

Complete test series 4 specimens in each material direction with dimensions 75 mm x 305 mm and maximum thickness 3 mm (13 mm for foam parts)


 

Test procedure
The test takes place in a specified test chamber in which the specimen is mounted vertically. The center of the bottom edge of the specimen is exposed to a gas flame for 12 or 60 seconds depending on the type of product. The following is recorded, flame time, burn length and flaming time of drippings from the material.
