Testing and evaluation of checkweighers

SP tests, certifies, verifies and calibrates all types of catchweighers, whether new designs or modifications of existing weighers.

Dynamic weighing, which is an application of considerable technical and economic importance, involves weighing while the item being weighed and the weighing instrument are in relative motion. A checkweigher is used to check that the desired weight tolerances in production processes are maintained.

Testing in accordance with the Measuring Instruments Directive and OIML R51

SP performs tests in accordance with the Measuring Instruments Directive and OIML R51, and issues accredited European and international certificates for all types of automatic weighing instruments.

Certificates and/or type approvals from SP for automatic weighing instruments are recognised throughout Europe and the rest of the world.

Catchweigher

As the item to be weighed passes over the weighing instrument platform, it generates a time-varying signal from which its mass can be estimated by signal processing and optimisation. Production processes call for constantly increasing speeds, which makes accurate determination of the object’s mass ever more difficult.

International standard OIML R 51

OIML R 51 "Automatic catchweighing instruments (catchweighers)" specifies requirements for automatic weighing instruments that weigh pre-assembled discrete loads (i.e. packaged or as individual items), or single loads of loose materials.

  • Checkweighers
  • Weight-grading instruments
  • Weight and/or price-marking weighing instruments
  • Weighing instruments for weighing single loads of loose materials
(e.g. wheel loaders or refuse collection vehicles).
