Testing and approval of weighing instruments

We evaluate, type-test and issue type approval certificates for all kinds of weighing instruments. We test automatic and non-automatic weighing instruments for both static and dynamic weighing. Certificates and/or type approvals from SP are widely recognised throughout Europe and the rest of the world.  

Automatic weighing instruments

SP tests weighing instruments in accordance with the EU Measuring Instruments Directive and OIML recommendations, and issues national Swedish type approvals and European and international certificates for all types of automatic weighing istruments.

Module testing

In addition to testing entire weighing instruments, we also test modules such as load cells, cash registers and weight indicators. Where applicable, test certificates can be issued for module test results. Note, however, that such certificates do not mean that the module has been type-approved:  only complete weighing instruments can be type-approved. 

We can also, of course, test and evaluate the performance of new or modified weighing instruments. 

Non-automatic weighing instruments

We test non-automatic weighing instruments in accordance with European Standard EN 45501 and the international OIML R 76 recommendation from Organisation Internationale de Métrologie Légale. SP issues type approvals in the form of EC certificates that are valid in all EU/EEA countries.  We can also issue OIML certificates, for the international market. 

Open approval

It is nowadays also possible for a weighing instruments manufacturer to obtain what is known as ‘open approval’ for weighing instruments consisting of a weight display and approved load cells in certain types of load carriers.
