SP Structural and Solid Mechanics

We work with research projects and assignments particular in the construction, engineering and transport sectors. The focus is mechanical properties such as strength, function, security, load carrying capacity, stability, durability, long-term properties/resistance.

The activities range from short-term tasks to multi-annual international research projects. Our knowledge through training and seminars are on the increase.

Research in the Structural and Solid Mechanics dealing with different materials, products and constructions mechanical properties under the influence of mechanical and thermal loads, and of other operational environmental parameters. The meeting needs in a variety of industries such as manufacturing, construction, automotive, shipping, off-shore, medical technology and energy.

Research is carried out in close collaboration with industry and academy and other institutions as well as with other technical departments and subsidiaries within SP. Share international, greater and transverse disciplinary projects is increasing.

This research is aimed at

  • improving the security by preventing accidents and injuries
  • increased cost-effectiveness with better optimized products based on performance, reliability and life demand
  • Sustainable growth through more efficient recycling, better designs and the use of renewable energy
  • increased knowledge of Swedish industry and thus long-term sustainable profitability
