The department performs mechanical tests, calculations and simulations for most types of components, structures and products for the determination of load-carrying capacity, strength, length of life and other mechanical properties. This can involve customer-specific methods or special solutions in order to be able to provide answers to our customers' different questions.
Our test and laboratory facilities can handle a wide range of tasks involving static load testing, fatigue and vibration testing. Multi-axial loads can be applied, with appropriate load spectra, while other equipment can apply extremely high loads. Instrumentation facilities include the ability to track, measure and display extremely rapid events.
We have a specially developed test facility in Gothenburg for research into district heating applications, performing such work as evaluation of plastic pipes, district heating pipes, foamed plastics for insulation and hoses for automotive applications. The facility also calibrates mechanical testing equipment and welding machines for plastic pipe welding.
The combination of FEM calculations and laboratory support and applications ensures unique potential for calculations, simulations and design verifications. The range of expertise and facilities - which include EDX electron microscopy - within the department guarantees a reliable and comprehensive resource for damage or failure investigations. The department is accredited by SWEDAC, which means that each year SWEDAC carries out surveillance inspection of our test methods and quality assurance.
The department is supported by workshop resources for the construction and manufacture of custom test rigs. All work is performed under conditions of commercial confidentiality, and so all reports and results become the property of clients.
