Research at Building Technology and Mechanics

Research carried out at the department of Building Technology and Mechanics is intended to provide a link between academic research and industrial applications, in addition to supporting the department's general work in the fields of theoretical problems and advanced calculations.
SP Trä constitutes a collective research and development resource for the Swedish timber and wood manufacturing industries. Through its work, SP Trä aims to strengthen the competitiveness of wood both as a material and in the form of Swedish wood products. The results of its research will also serve to enhance the long-term profitability of Swedish sawmills, joinery companies, manufacturers of timber house and other buildings, furniture manufacturers and the producers of boards and other wood-processing products.
SP Trä's activities span the full range of timber handling and processing from felling and handling in the forest, via production in the sawmill through to finished products and their use.
The nature and scope of SP Trä's research and development programs are such that they contain all the ingredients that typify the work of a professional industrial research institute. They embrace fundamental research, most often conducted in collaboration with universities and other research institutes, applied research, development work, investigations, the production of reports and information material, consulting services and assistance with practical applications.
