SP Structural and Solid Mechanics
Our work is concerned primarily with the construction, engineering and transport sectors, concentrating particularly on function, safety, strength/stability, long-term properties, durability and transport economics.An increasing proportion of this work deals with environmental and recycling aspects, ranging from essentially routine work to advanced research projects. This has been accompanied by an increase in the presentation of results at seminars and via training courses etc.
Most of our research is conducted in the form of large projects together with industry, universities and other research institutes. It is becoming increasingly internationalised, not least as a result of more active participation in the European research programmes.
