Software
The Software Section deals with function and dependbility of electronic products and software. Much of this work is devoted to embedded systems, i.e. products that contain programmable electronics desined for a specific purpose.Today, we have high safety expectations of much machinery, apparatus and systems that we use or encounter in day-to-day applications. Control of safety-related functionality is dependent on the correct operation of electronic equipment and software. There is a clear need for safety evaluation, whether it be to assess reliability, confidence, availability, personal safety or the security of information. Control malfunctions can result in injury to persons, property or the environment: such risks can be reduced by correct design of the equipment and evaluation of its safety.
Evaluation of electronic equipment and software
We evaluate, and test the performance and functional safety of, machinery, apparatus and systems. Parts of our testing work are accredited, such as for the safety of machinery and for measuring equipment. In addition, SP is a Notified Body for safety components in accordance with the Machinery Directive. We perform research in conjunction with other institutes and universities, in Sweden and in other European countries.
