Wood Technological AssessmentOur primary aim is to offer services relating to testing, inspection/certification, damage investigation and theme days, mainly related to wood, furniture and construction industry.
The old section Quality and Testing has now changed its name to Wood Technological Assessment. The name change is intended to clarify the focus and expertise within the section.
Since 1 January 2015, the sectiuon is included in the new department Sustainable Built Environment, which was formed by the former department Wood Technology and two sections from Energy Technology. This change strengthened our expertise as an innovation partner within wood technology, building physics and acoustics.

Testing and evaluation
Large parts of the industry are facing the possibility to be able to CE mark their products in order to thereby get easier access to the European market. Japan, the USA and Australia are examples of other key markets which in many cases presupposes certificates of various kinds. We also work with inspection and certification according to other systems such as SP's P-marking and the type approval system of Sweden's National Board of Housing, Building and Planning.
After many years of standardisation work in Europe, it is possible to CE mark a variety of construction, wood and wood-related products. It includes, among other, strength graded structural timber (EN 14081), Glulam (EN 14080), finger-jointed wood (EN 15497), roof trusses (EN 14250), wooden floor (EN 14342), wood based boards (EN 13986), fasteners for bearing wooden structures (EN 14592) and nail and nailing plates (EN 14545). SP is a so-called Notified Body, which means we can issue certificates for CE marking.
We participate and influence European and other standardisation of wood and wood products so that the Swedish and Nordic wood is not disadvantaged. The work concerns mainly the areas of sawn wood and subjects, construction timber, dimensioning, durability, fire and joinery. We also work with the forthcoming harmonised standards that provide conditions and tasks for CE marking of construction products.
We also offer damage investigations of different kinds within the wood, construction and building sector, often in collaboration with other parts of the SP.
