The creative networker

Karin WendinKarin Wendin first encountered SIK back in the 1990s, which led to her moving her doctoral studies from Uppsala to Chalmers University of Technology, whose food science department was located in the SIK building at the time.

Since 2001 she has held a variety of roles at SIK, from project manager to education manager to team leader. Karin, currently a research associate in sensory and aroma science, now lives in Lund and is a part-time visiting researcher at the University of Copenhagen.

Coordinating her professional and private life is a priority for Karin, especially given that her job involves travelling the world to pursue research grants, liaise with partners and ensure that projects make progress.

When Karin’s husband landed a job in Skåne, she was able to continue her career from SIK’s regional office in Lund.

According to Karin, the best thing about SIK and the SP Group is their unique position between academia and business, combining the best aspects of both. She adds that working for a research institute has led to specific career opportunities, and that she has consistently been promoted and encouraged to pursue professional development opportunities.

In her free time, Karin enjoys travelling and other activities with her husband and two children. Being a creative type, she also enjoys drawing, painting, and fixing up the family’s 19th-century home.
