Fire Research
Fire Research is active in research, Fire Safety Engineering, support to national and international legislation, off-shore safety, risk analysis, testing, certification, inspection and so on. The group works globally. We perform theoretical analyses of the growth of fires and the spread of smoke as well as calculations of temperatures in structures exposed to fire. We perform third-party review of fire safety design. We work actively in the EU with regulations and we develop technical solutions for assessment of products and systems.
We investigate and test the behaviour of materials and products in fires. The results can be used for CE-marking, type approval, P-marking and other types of certification in Sweden and in many other countries. We work with products from various areas like buildings, ships, vehicles, interior furnishing, offshore etc. We also test extinguishing media and fire-fighting equipment.
Fire Research has an extensive network of contacts for example in CEN (European standardisation), ISO (international standardisation), EGOLF (european official laboratories), FORUM of Fire Research Directors, SFPE (Society of Fire Protection Engineers), Fire Sector Group of Notified Bodies.
Our activities are presented in our magazine Brandposten. It is published twice a year on Swedish/Norwegian and English.
