Information sheet SS 02 48 25 (NT Fire 007)

Test method for external fire exposure to floorings according to SS 02 48 25 (NT FIRE 007).

Main field of application

The product can be classified according to Boverkets Allmänna råd 1993:2 Utgåva 2 after testing. The class is called Golvbeläggning klass G.

The test method measures floorings ability to withstand flame spread and the smoke production when exposed to a burning wood crib.

Examples of products that can be tested with this method

All types of flooring, for example wood, plastic and textile flooring. The flooring shall be mounted on the substrates on which it is intended to be used on. If the flooring material is to be used on different substrates, all combinations must be covered by testing.

Material consumption during test

Complete test, 4 tests   6 test specimens, 3 specimens cut in the warp direction and 3 specimens cut in the weft direction, with the dimension 400 mm x 1000 mm.
Indicative test,1 test  2 test specimens with the dimension 400 mm x 1000 mm

 Procedure

The test takes place inside chamber which is inclined 30° towards the horizontal plane. The flooring, in combination with the substrate, is mounted inside the test chamber. The test is performed at an air velocity of 2 m/s and a wood crib is used as ignition source. Four tests are performed. The test continues for 15 minutes or until the fire is extinguished or until the flame front has reached the upper end of the specimen. The time at which the specimen ignites and the time at which the flames and glow dies out is recorded during the test. The opacity of the produced smoke is recorded with a lamp and a photocell. After the test, the length of the damaged material of the flooring and the substrate, respectively, is measured.
